Where I stayed

We arrived in Riga by bus the 21st of June... We definitely got ripped off by a cab driver on our way from the train station to the Hostel where we were staying... He basically drove in a giant circle, complained about traffic and charged us 10 euro... Not fun but it happens...

We realized how close we really were to the train station when we started walking down the street where the hostel was and came up on the station (o the same street...)

Victory Hostel was no beauty but it was alright... It was a place to sleep, and that's about it... Taking a shower was not the most comfortable experience because it kind of felt like you were getting dirtier the longer you were in the washroom...

We spent the first day exploring the old city... The city itself is definitely beautiful, old buildings, cobblestone streets around the old town, trams, trolleybuses, etc...

The old town is much larger than the one in Tallinn and it seemed less taken care of... That's a shame, because the city definitely has lots to offer... There were plenty of little cafes and restaurants along the narrow pedestrian streets... Lots of beautiful historic buildings to see, and beautiful malls built into the historic town (without harming the character)...

People definitely dress much better here than they do back home... Almost all young women wear high-heels even though I am sure they are not the most comfortable things to wear on cobblestone...

On the second day in Riga we took an hour-long tour by bus around the city and then took a commuter-train to Jurmala along the coast... Jurmala was beautiful (and noticeably pricier than Riga itself)... Beautiful sandy beaches, cottages, and little streets with restaurants and cafes lining both sides...

When we got back to Riga we spent a bit more time in the city before returning to the Hostel for the night... On the morning of June 23rd we hauled all our stuff to the train station and took a bus to Klaipeda, Lithuania, on our way to Nida...
