Its a bit Chilly in Chile
Entry 43 of 52 | show all | print this entry |
OK so this is where Brazil is supposed to be, right? well thats what I thought would happen given that I had a flight booked and I turned up at the airport on time, all ship shaped in bristol fashion!!! Except when I turn up at the check in desk I'm told that sorry Señor Tann, because you haven't had a Yellow Fever Injection you cant go! Like how the fuck should I know that? Apparently because i was in panama which is considered a YF zone, unless you have had an injection at least 15 days before you wanna enter Brazil, then forget it! So it was a solid ´´no way jose´´
The only place I could change my flight to was Santiago, Chile. A place I had wanted to go to later in my trip cause I was hoping to catch a week on the slopes. But with luck firmly not on my side I was there three weeks too early for the ski season. However, I was there early enough to catch the minus degrees temperatures that were cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey!!! I turned up at the airport armed only with a beach towel, a pair of speedo tight trunks and a tube of sunscreen, ready for sun filled days on the beach. But instead what I got was a arctic style winter from the Andes, that would have made even Captain Scott think, fuck this, I'm turning back! It wasn't pleasant I can tell you and in fact I'm pretty sure that the hotel room was colder inside than it was outside... (OK well maybe I should have worn more than a pair of speedos but then I was determined to get my moneys worth out of them!!!)
Chile was cool (if you will excuse the pun) very relaxed or ´Tranquilo´ as they say in Spanish. Not a very vibrant city but very ´cosmo´ safe and pleasant
