The most dangerous place in Central america
Entry 38 of 52 | show all | print this entry |
Didn't stay long as you can see, but I had planned to stay alot longer, arriving at night into a new place without a reservation is always a bad idea, especially into a place with a reputation for gangs and gringo slaughters like San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. Especially with the bus station in the somalianesq war zone that it is... I made attempts to go out for dinner but not a single person in the hotel would go with me, and judging by the barbed wire on everything from shops to houses and offices to phone boxes (probably) it was pretty clear that this was not a perfectly safe place. Gringos were pretty few and far between, i.e. only me, and Ive now discovered that when a place has little or no tourists its basically because a) its fucking dangerous or b) cause there is absolutely fuck all to do there! nothing. Nothing to see, nothing to do, just pass through. Which is exactly what I did. To be fair the whole place is not that bad, and there is a nice area, but even that nice area with nice houses, a mall and a couple of chain hotels was covered in barbed wire and really begs the question... What am I doing here?
