Another 12 hour bus ride another 12 hours of blaring Vietnamese music whilst being freezing cold because of the air con being put on full blast all night and we're just wearing t-shirts and shorts. This how Hue started and it didn't get much better to be honest.

We arrived that morning looked at a few shabby hotels before settling on a more expensive but nicer one which had luxeries like tv (handy for the Champions League final that night...) On the way to the different hotels we were accosted by various guys on motorbikes offering us lifts and hotels. We mistakenly got caught by one and after looking at a hotel he recommended which frankly was still being built he tried to sell us tours. After we told him all we wanted to do was to check into a hotel and rest he "showed us" the way to the hotel in question and then waited outside for us until we came out... three hours later! Started to hassle us again until we told him firmly we didn't want him and went looking for somewhere to have lunch. He continued to follow us at discreet distance turning down side streets when we turned to look at him. We finally lost him in a place to eat but we still saw him whizz by the restaurant twice looking for us while we were eating.

After this adventure we walked to the citadel to visit the ancient city. We further annoyed when some Vietnamese started to take our photos (which isn't the first time that's happened, coupled with the stares that we seem to get). The ancient city and temple enclosure was a big let down. The most impressive thing on display was the huge flag pole outside the citadel. Inside there were a few buildings none of which were spectacular and the forbidden purple city which sounds good but all it is some rickety stone steps leading up to nothing really just some rubble which all covered in foliage.

Walked around the rest of Hue but there wasn't much to do headed back to the hotel early declining the ever present offers of motorbikes and prepared to leave for hopefully somewhere better, Hoi An
