We woke up nice and early but Kev and Anthony had already gone..I think they had wanted to get out in front for once...and they sure did...it was the last we saw of them for a few days as it turns out. I knocked on the camper van good and early and within minutes the midges were out and the breakfast was on the go. Once again Ang and Iain excelled themselves knocking up a full Scottish breakfast out of nothing for Carl, Phil and me.
We set off with belly's full and with the company of Angie and Iain who cycled the first 10 miles with us. After that it was a nice ride up the side of Loch Awe and over the hill into Inverarry. On the way up the hill Ang and Iain suddenly pulled up in the camper van to give me fresh fruit supplies. The said they had passed Carl and Phil down at the bottom of the hill as Carl had another puncture. I carried on down into Inverarry where I had a top lunch of humous and soda bread sat on the promenade in roasting sunshine. The boys turned up and had their lunch and we set off towards to Dunoon. About 3 miles in Phil's knee started really playing up so we turned back to spend the night in Inverarry...where it turned out there was no campsite so Phil booked himself into the Caledonian hotel while us boys carried on. The intention was that Phil would go to the doctors in the morning and then come meet up with us.
Carl and myself then launched into the 45 mile ride to Dunoon at 4.30 in the afternoon. And a relentless ride it was...up and down hills and around the loch such that after 2 hours of riding we could see exactly where we started from over the other side. In the end we hit a campsite on the outskirts of Dunoon at 8.30 at night so just jumped into the first campsite we saw...a miserable place at the side of the road with 50p showers and locked toilet blocks that we needed to give a 5 quid deposit for a key. I ate the worst lasagna in the world and went to bed to escape the midges that were after my blood...
