72 km cycled today - the result?? EXHILARATION (and exhaustion)

The first 4 km stretch was just a saunter round the local man made lake, Xun Huong.
Then we rode for 34 km through interesting and varied country side with many poly tunnels.

Then we we did the most superb 30 km downhill stretch, which took just 42 minutes - that`s an average of 43 kph (27 mph). The road was quiet with only a few pot holes to negotiate. Excellent!

We had the opportunity to cycle another 30 km through serious heat and up and down minor hills, but both Marian and I thought better of it. Our bikes went in the truck and we went in the air conditioned bus.

Friday 25th April

Exodus (our tour company) organised a boat trip out to a coral reef where we spent several hours snorkeling, having lunch with a few beers and getting a sun tan in unexpected places.

Nha Trang is a very popular tourist resort with modern hotels and restaurants. There are loads of Russians here plus the usual assortment of backpackers.

In fact all of Vietnam is much more developed than I had expected. I reckon it has one of the tiger economies, though independent expert comment does not agree with me. Cambodia and Vietnam were both ravaged by the war but since then it is clear that the centrally planned economy of Vietnam has fared much better for its people.
