60 km (that's 37.5 miles) cycled today, in pretty extreme heat - the result??? a sore bum

We made an early start to miss the heat of the day, but the sun was up early as well.

The first 14 km was by the coast past lots of hotels and resorts and fishing boats and fish sellers. Then we turned inland through loads of Dragon Fruit. The countryside here is never boring and the roads are pretty good and not too busy.

At 12 we stopped cycling and (after lunch) we got on the bus for a 4 hour ride up into the cool mountains around Da Lat . This city of 200,000 is not at all what I expected to find in Vietnam.
'The French endowed the city with villas and boulevards, and its Swiss charms remain today' says wikipedia

As we got higher the land was planted mostly with tea and coffee. They grow only Robusta which is much more intense than the Arabica we are used to in the west. The local 'Ca Phe' is taken with a small dollop of condensed milk and I have quite a liking for it.

It is interesting to see the number of Catholic churches. Temples or other large religious structures are uncommon, though many houses have their private shrine out front. Moreover many of the houses in the country are quite substantial. Not grand, but well decorated and finished.

You mad things - cycling those distances in the heat. Gosh, I think I would have sensory overload by now given what you have done in the last 6/7 months. Seems ages even for me since South America. This leg of your trip brought back so many memories - had forgotten how varied and raw it is. All the best for the rest of your trip. Yvonne
