An excellent days walking around Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. The ups and downs were steep and sometimes strenuous but the lovely sunny weather more than compensated. There being little wind today, the peace was punctured only by the occasional rat-a-tat of machine gun fire and dull thud of tank artillery from the nearby military ranges.
We boarded the 10am ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe. As the captain reversed through the narrow harbour entrance we passed a huge pile of scrap metal and I could not help thinking that this vessel would soon augment that same pile. Just outside the harbour we span through 180 degrees and set out into a herd of white horses. In fact the crossing was smooth and the vessel sound (but never let the truth spoil a good story!).
