Here we start a 17 day trip with Intrepid Travel

Friday 29th November

Antigua is like Truro compared to the Fore St of Looe that is Panajachel. Eventually we found our hostel, Casa en Familla (20 yards from Fernando`s cafe on the corner of 7th Avienda Norte and Calle Camposeco). It is a charming colonial town house and frequently used by Intrepid Tours. We have 3 nights here.

We meet our fellow travelers on Sunday.

Saturday 30th November

A relaxed day looking around this (relatively) quaint old colonial town. We visited the Post Office and bought stamps for post cards to Europe and then the supermarket to but some provisions for supper, the cost of eating out here being similar to that in Europe (which is more than we are used to).

Due to earthquake activity there are many ruined churches here. They usually build a new one rather than repair the old. I guess it is a measure of God's anger that the church was ruined in the first place.

Sunday 1st December

An early start (6am), an hour's drive and then a 4 Km walk up to the peak of active volcano Pacaya. It was like going up Barbican Hill for an hour followed by the steepest part of the North Cornish coastal path for half an hour. THE SCENES WERE TREMENDOUS. Some of the rocks were too hot to touch. This volcano has erupted 23 times since the Spanish invasion, most recently in 2010.

This afternoon we have a Swedish massage booked for 4pm, then we meet our group at 6:30pm.
Monday it's an early start to Copan in Honduras.
