With the end of our trip approaching and a day to kill before we're due in Switzerland, we decide to do something touristy, and head for the outskirts of Milan and the much-touted 'Aquatica' water park. There's a campsite right next door so we pitch up and head off to the park with our towels. It takes us quite a while to enter the park as there are around a hundred people waiting and nobody home at the ticket office. Eventually someone appears and we all file slowly past the single window open to get our tickets. This does not bode well for the management of the park and inside the theme continues. Whilst the rides are mostly in order (and much fun), everything else appears to be closed down. Worse, there's no cash machines, everything costs extra and the few listless staff around refuse to accept cards. Which means no sunloungers to lounge on, no big rubber rings to slide on, and nothing to eat or drink. So after a few rides we leave the park in search of food, and then decide its not worth the effort of returning. Which leaves us marooned in the suburbs of Milan, lacking the motivation to do anything other than find some food and watch tv in the tent occasionally disturbed by a yell from the hordes of Irish gypsies who are the campsites only other inhabitants. Italy, it seems, has ground us down. Its a beautiful country, but the most frustrating one we've visited, and we're both looking forward to heading to Switzerland the next day.
