Headed down from St George this morning to Lightning Ridge. The country remains to be green and lush. Not what we expected. We thought it would be really barren. There are areas of cropping right outside the Ridge. They have had over 30 inches of rain down here this year.

Saw a big black pig cross the road with a tribe of piglets in tow. Bit slow with the camera.

We stopped at Hebel (pronounced Heebel we were told) for a coffee and a banana muffin on recommendation of some people that we met along the way. A young couple have done up an old store and they provide a really nice little respite from the driving. There are only a few buildings in town so not much else to look at.

There are 3 van parks at the Ridge. we stayed at the one which is attached to the pub. We checked out the bush camp outside town but thought it could be a problem if it rained so decided that it would be best to stop in town.

Went for a long walk around town and out to the aerodrome in the afternoon. Will arrange to do a tour tomorrow to get an idea about how the opal mining works.
