The drive along the winding coastal road between Cairns and Port Douglas is really picturesque. Traffic wasn't too bad and we checked in to the van park with enough time in hand to walk down to the markets (about 1.2 km walk).
Quite a good range of items for sale at the markets. Bit like the Eumundi markets but not as big. There were the usual range of interesting looking stall holders (old guys with the hair up in buns and that sort of thing) - they all looked quite content.
Greg bought a T Shirt - the logo says "Life in the Slow Lane - Port Douglas" - what a tourist hey
Jan had a bake in the arvo while Greg tried (unsuccessfully to fix the leg on the van) - that's the third one to break.
In the evening we headed back to town on foot. Watched the end of the footy at the Central Hotel then wandered down to the Courthouse Hotel where they had a band playing (a very well matured one at that) - played some good music - the rendition of 'Bop bop bopping the Blues' had the crowd singing along.
The noise from the Starlings that had come in to roost in the trees in the main street was something to behold.
We spoke to a fisherman who grew up on an island just off the coast where his parents were the lighthouse keepers. He catches live live coral trout for export ($40 / kg).
Had a nice fattening ice cream on the way home. A really enjoyable night.
