We sleep in and decide in the morning (after consultation of various weather forecasts) to stay in Kars and only go to Ani.

Ani is about 50km outside Kars and the temperatures are barely above zero. It is very cold and after this distance (we passed mountains with fresh snow as well on the road) we were happy that we took this decision.

Ani was a good decision, it offeres a big field of ruines and some are restaurated some others are not. The city was becoming very big 1000 years ago and was destroyed in the second half of the 16th century. It has a strategic important location where all the traffic from the silk road was passing through here and there was a bridge over the river that separates today Turkey from Armenia.

There are mosques, churches, houses, a city wall with doors and lots of stones that have ornaments and are cut.

We spend 2 hours there and go back to our warm hotel with good impressions and the feeling of a day well spent.
