Here's a copy from the few notes I could write on sea:
"The ocean is funny, it let's your mind wondering around. Wondering through your complete life, stops at song lyrics, creates new ones and most of all it let's you know how little you actually are in this enormous world. How dare we think we'd have it under control."
"Things that comfort me out here: the sunsets, my music and the smell of a lit match when he turns on the stove." (day 5)
"DAY 7 = I'm still fucking sick and it's raining. Isn't seasickness supposed to be done after 3 to 4 days??? Today I lost it, I broke out in tears and all I could say is: Ich will nach Hause. (I wanna go home.) Apart from that, I'm not hungry since days."
"Night 7 - I got scared to death, I started hallucinating. I lost reality. I forgot I was on a boat. Instead I was in a pub, still feeling the waves banging in my head but i didn't make the connection to the ocean. Good thing I didn't start wondering around the pub, I would have walked straight into the ocean.."
"Day 8 - I don't know what kind of super drug Ant gave me, but the 10th pill finally seemed to work. For the first time I ate something because I was hungry. And now we're contemplating how often we shit. ;) Which is by the way not very often at all, so far within 8 days, I managed once and god I was happy about that one time. I started worrying that something very serious is wrong with me."
"Night 8 - A flying fish decided to fly into my lab, well there was dinner and back to seasickness..
And why the hell do I keep hearing a frigging telephone ringing next to me???
"Day 9 - I slept the whole day on drugs. God that was good!!!
"Day 11 - We arrived in 'Garden Eden'. First of all I can't enjoy one bit yet, since I'm tired and sick and apart from that it's just another place.. I need people, not places.
"Day 12 - When flour turns into solid stone blocks, then you know the fucking humidity is way to high!"
The day we arrived, I was desperate for a shower or at least a swim in the ocean. The first thing I saw once I was ready to jump, was a bunch of black tipped reef sharks. WHY??? Great I could have maybe managed one, but not 5! So no swim, instead I took a video:
It took a while to overcome the shark fear. It's just that, normally fish are afraid when you get close, sharks are not, no matter what size they are. The locals were probably having a blast about our hesitation.
The next week was rather dominated by the attempt to fix things. Even though the pictures look very relaxing. We did have a good time playing cast aways though with a bunch of coconuts.
After Eden was going to be the longest sailing trip. I wasn't looking forward to that at all...
