Beautiful place he's got, nothing I was ever used to. He's amazing, I wish I could have spend more time with him, but when you've got a son and a really cool big family there's not a lot time left for privacy. I guess that's something I gotta get used to too.

15.12.08 - Thank you!
Thank you for all the nice notes and little messages, I'm glad I'm not forgotten even though I'm on the other side of the world. It means so much to me you have no idea.. and all I can say is thank you from the bottom of my hearth.

I was so overwhelmed when his family brought a cake in with candles. I did not expect that whatsoever. I mean how long have I been here, not even a week and then such a welcome. I was stunned.

16.12.08 - Going on with my life
Full of enthusiasm did I decide to start studying again. What I wasn't sure. I was still debating between screen and sound or animation. I don't really know why I keep pushing acting away.. maybe cause I know that all destinations for that would be really far away. Berlin, LA or Sydney are not quite around the corner from Perth..
But hey if I'd do animation for games or movies, I'd be at least a step closer than business engineering. So I went to a speech given by a tutor in the Mandurah library about studying Art and Design of Games at Murdoch.
I came to the conclusion I gotta go over there and check things out and that I'll definitely be exploring the games: 'World of Goo' and 'Dance Dance Revolution' some time.

Well the idea was good, the moment I went to all these Uni's and Institutes that provide courses, I got thrown back into reality pretty harsh.

Murdoch Study fees for Games Art and Design as well as Screen and Sound is 18.750,- AUD a year. According to their leaflet I'd have to have between 1020,- and 1300,- AUD each month for living expenses.
That's how they calculate a week: 150,- Accom., 20,- Utilities, 85,- Food, 20,- Public Transport, Entertainment 50,- and even if I'd start starving and have no entertainment I'd still have text book costs of 150,- to 400,- AUD per semester. I didn't even mention my car yet or that I'd have way more travel costs if I'd move back and forth between Mandurah and Perth. Of course the study visa costs (a lot!) and the required English test (IELTS: 280,- AUD)
So I guess I'm looking at.. 389,58 fee + 325 living + 70 car if nothing breaks.. = 785 weekly!!! Plus 400 books + 280 test in the first week.. so 1465,- in a freaking week!
Fuck that! It's a third of that if you have residency.. Oh yeah and the absolutely most ridiculous thing that I read in that paper was: "students should not rely on working while studying" Yeah right, I'll just shit money then.. that is nuts, the only way I could afford that would be working in a strip club. I mean common, I'm 26 years now and won't be saving anything for the future for at least the next three years and then it's not even certain if I'd get a job in animation at all. And I bet ya, after those three years I'd still want to be an actress..
Oh god this is hopeless!

At the SEA Institute we're looking at fully accredited 1 year courses called: Audio Engineering, 3D Animation and Multimedia. Part time studies are generally not available for International Students so I'd be looking at full time and a total of 13.470,- AUD that have to be paid before the year starts or in two rates of 2 x 7500,- which is more expensive for nothing. With residency we're looking at 11.000,-.
So I'd be walking out of there with a diploma after one year, which is here less worth than a bachelor degree. If I wanted the Bachelor of Film Production I'd be looking at two years 43.200,- AUD all up (36,600.- AUD with residency) So yeah it'd be more expensive but I'd save a year for the same result.
I wonder how much it would be in Germany, since they have about 5 institutes all over Germany.

Since I'm nowhere near those prices financially, I got back to my originally idea of the stewardess thing. So I went into a Qantas office and had a chat to a lady, who was very nice by the way. Apparently without residency I don't even need to apply but one good point tattoo's apparently are not an issue ;) since they wear trousers at Qantas.

Since all my ways for that day lead to residency, I ran to the Immigration Office and of course it was closed. How frustrating can it get?! Well I didn't have my passport with me anyway, which desperately needs a stamp. So good night and thank you reality for blocking every idea I had within the last few days...
I looked up stuff about different residencies and it comes pretty much down to three options. You better be good and find a sponsor who absolutely needs you or you put 5030.- AUD on the table but that would have to happen still this year cause otherwise it'd be longer than two years since my degree.. 10 days left..well probably not going to happen.. or the well known marriage. You could do the de facto thing too, you'd have to prove that you have been living 12 month together though. The shit from yesterday just seemed to continue..

Well, whatever, I printed out my resume and went door knocking asking for employment, to have at least a short term solution till September. I reckon I got more contacts by hanging out in the pub than anywhere else ;) sometimes I think the world works in beer. I got the best tip there from a girl who was as well still wearing her southbound entry band. She reckoned I should work as Southbound staff and I'm loving that idea! Apart from that I had a really nice talk in an Art Gallery. I could see myself cutting frames very well!
Oh if that would work out, that'd be a good start for Mandurah.

Apart from all that, it's Christmas and guess what, Yve bought her first Christmas tree in her life. It's beautiful ;)

Guess what, I met a girl from Schwaebisch Hall!!! Lena. And our life stories are pretty much the same, amazing! We met in the mall and spend the next day chatting away on the bay. God it was good talking to someone! She's been here for two years now and studies 'Maskenbildnerin'. I envy her, she's got it figured out somehow ;)

But hey thanks Mum for hanging up a disco ball on your tree for me. I'm loving it!

Merry Christmas! A big familiy event with the Buchanan's. Very different to what I was used to but very nice. I guess I'm getting older, it feels now more like a party for the kids and I'm not one of 'em anymore..

01.01.09 - New Years...
That was definitely the worst New Years I've ever ever had in my whole life!!!! I was alone and went to bed. Boa I can't believe I did that!!! Never ever again!!! What was I thinking!!!
