From Monday on I'll be without reception for the next three month, cause I said yes to a contract that will send me to a farm somewhere. So it might be that from that day on there will be a break with entries, unless I'll discover a connection in neverneverland ;)
Yahoo, I did discover a connection in neverneverland ;), at least for a week until the course is finished, that promised us guaranteed work right after.
Well the course started and hell am I glad I said yes to that. Donna and me were really debating whether that was really worth 550,- bucks, since we were running low on cash anyway. But man after yesterday I'd say it was totally worth it. I've been smiling for the past two days straight and that's always a good sign. It just feels really good to be among a lot of youngsters again and hey the food is awesome ;).
Alright I guess I'll tell you a little bit about this week:
Monday - driving out there ( I'm glad Harlekin made it..), getting used to a new home with nine new people, doing paperwork and finding out that this place owns two computers for free use (yeha!)
Tuesday - We got split up into two groups. Our group was doing motorbikes and chain saws. Up to this point I wasn't really sure what that meant until I felt it. I sat on a scooter before, but I tell you those motorbikes are nothing like that!!! We got introduced to all the technical stuff you need to know to fix up your bike first and then came the fun part. I guess I led mine die about a dozen times. To handle the gears with the feet and the clutch with the hand was just too much swopped around compared to a car. Besides I haven't driven a manual car for almost years..
Well but once I felt comfortable, WOW! We speeded up little bumps and hills and bigger hills, man I was flying! That was seriously one of the best experiences ever. Those little one to two meter hills are probably my favorites, cause you accelerate at the bottom and you jump on the top. I felt more like being in a motor cross course than anything else. That surrounding here is just perfect or in German: (Geiles Gelaende ey!) I guess I'd be totally fine to ride a motorbike in Germany, too bad they don't except that... or maybe I could just do the test.. hmm..
After lunch we could actually sleep in on a veranda for an hour, very relaxing. And the second part of the day included cutting down little trees with a chainsaw, cause they suck all the moisture out of the soil and that way the grass wouldn't be growing and it would turn into a forest instead of a cattle place. So we started of doing some fencing, learned three knots and then actually worked as a cutter. Gosh, this chainsaw was heavy(!!) and that was just a little one. I really don't wanna work with a big one the whole day. My arm got so shaky or maybe I'm just not used to physical work anymore. Since Perth I basically didn't do anything anymore. Well that was the first real day and guess what happened in the evening. Corey phoned a place in Birdsville, Queensland and all three of us got offered a job right that day. I just hope my dear Harlekin makes it to Birdsville, feel free to look it up on Google Earth and then look up Gympie and we got to make this distance within 2 or 3 days. It's still Queensland, but way over on the other side. That'll be another challenge!
Wednesday - Horseback riding and tractor driving ;) was standing on the agenda. Well my horse had a mind of her own, but I stayed on her. Even though I think she tried to get rid of me at one point. I manged to speed through this tree that was right ahead of me with just a couple of scratches. I would love to learn how to do it without feeling not in control. Horseback riding is one of the coolest activities ever! Tractor driving in comparison is really slow, but good and loud fun too. I can imagine trucking along a huge field with my Ipod (which by the way suddenly decided to work properly ;) yahoo!)
Thursday - This day was the last learning day. We got to ride quads and and learned how to change a tire, which believe it or not can be a real sexual thing ;) thanks to Ranz! You gotta watch the video! The second part of the day we spend talking on CBF's and crawling up a massive rocky mountain in a 4WD. It's kinda cool when you go down and you can't even see the ground cause it's that steep.
Friday - The final challenge. We were actually mustering a mob of cattle from one paddy to another to sort them out and chase them around. I was on a quad and yep it was dusty. Pretty intense though. Some of those old pregnant ladies had quite some attitude. I even got to wrestle a little cave down, they do it here quite different from what I learned over in Montana, more sophisticated somehow.
In the evening we had a really good good-bye party, too bad that the sad stuff about good-bye parties involves saying good-bye. Well I'm gonna miss those guys a lot, they are great and I wish we would have gotten a job on their property..
Check out the party picks, some of 'em are UNREAL!!!
From now on we got three days to make it across half of the country to Birdsville, wish us luck ;o)
