So this would be one of these moments when you come to a place and you have no clue what will happen next. I didn't have a place to sleep or any further plan of destination. All I had were two phone numbers of two couch surfers, but my mobile was not working.
The first problem was solved pretty easily, since everybody speaks English. (again!) Wow. So I bought a Sim card and got my crappy phone to word at least for two sms ;o)
On my way I ran into a really nice couple Josie & Andi (British & Polish-Norther Ireland Mix) and a Canadian guy named Hugo. Since my sleeping problem was not solved yet I could drop of my bags at their hostel and the four of us ended up hiking through Kowloon for about 5 hours searching for a 3D theater that was supposed to show Harry Potter in 3D!!
Well we finally succeeded and found it, but unfortunately the show was booked out for the next 3 days. All that hiking for nothing, well at least we had us ;o)
And my couch surfing contacts replied both(!) so I ended up staying with Checco an Italian guy on Hong Kong Island.
I didn't plan on staying so long, but in the end it's been almost a week now. It just took an immense time to get my Ipod fixed and I finally gave up in finding a boat to Taiwan. Somehow that is not an available option. Maybe from Taiwan to the Philippines.
Travel tip No. 1: Hong Kong is made for visa stuff and exchanging money business. It's unbelievable how many services you can use.
Travel tip No. 2: If you want to cross from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island, use the Ferry!! It's just 2.2 HKD and so much more fun! The MTR is a rip off. Also if you want to travel from one end of Hong Kong Island to the other, use the tramp! It's also just 2 HKD!
Travel tip No. 3: Hong Kong is the best place to get free Internet access everywhere. You'll find random computers for public use in MTR stations ( I used the yahoo mail PC's in central) and coffee shops. Really useful!
And the most amazing thing that happened to me here: Guess what I bumped into Happy Buddha!!!! Yeah Tommy from Vietnam!!! This IS such a small world, unbelievable!
One night I waited for a random German guy to show up, one of the couch surfers (Stephen) hooked us up. The German guy never showed up, but a French guy, Arthur, whom I met on the train from Shanghai. So we had a nice little chat. I ran into that guy 3 times!! Somehow it's all about meeting people.
So let's see if my Ipod will work soon and I need to collect my ticket from the travel agency. 1832,- HKD (incl. Tax) back and forth (HKG-Taipei) with EVA airlines, that was the best I could find. I wish the boat thing would have worked out...
The rest of the day I guess I'll help Checco with his CV and rearrange his apartment ;o) I finished a curtain for the kitchen already, he he..
A few hours left, Cloe and Checco have been sooo nice to me! Thank you guys soooo much! Without your help I really wouldn't have made it to the airport. Silly me thought you could walk to the airport, but no. You have to check your luggage in early on the main land. Well so you are forced to take the Metro with is another 100,- HK$. Money just runs through my hands here and my bloddy Ipod (which is a completely new model now) started skipping songs again. What a pice of bullshit, to all of you out there, never ever buy an Ipod!!! You can't even give it back.
Well, but there are also better news, I met a guy on the plan, Daniel (Taiwanese). He just happened to live for 4 years in Germany, so he was fluent in German as well as English. Even more strange, he can play guitar, infact he gave guitar lessons. So we got in a nice conversation since I was travelling with my guitar in the hand luggage. And it turned out that his company produces mp3/4 players and they are searching for a model. So maybe I end up in two weeks in Taipei again doing a shooting, since I have always a need for money ;o)
I got the feeling it will stay interesting. ;o)
