Our second night at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse was freezing but we did wake to a beautiful blue sky, fantastic weather for what turned out to be a fantastic day's driving. First stop on our tour through the Provence countryside was Gordes, a very pretty village straddling a hillside. There was a small market on here in the village centre where we had a second breakfast of the morning forced on us by people trying to sell us their local produce, we had bread smothered in different olive oils and various flavoured pastes made from olives, the best ham we have ever tasted, sausages and home made cookies (it was the best we'd eaten since leaving home!). We passed through loads more typically French towns like this and miles of beautiful countryside - it's easy to see why Provence is so popular.
Way back when we were in Rhonda all those weeks ago somebody told us about a drive they had taken through the Gorges du Verdon and recommended we went if we were close by at any time - and we were, so we did
And now we are in Cagnes-sur-Mer about 20 miles from Nice, catching up with laundry and making the most of the hot showers (well luke warm!) after 4 days without one (we are both smelling worse than Alfie!). Then we'll be crossing the border into Italy, which is about 40 miles away heading towards Lake Garda.
Bye for now, lots of love to everyone back home - we are still missing you all!

Gordes
! The road cuts through a huge canyon (we think it's the second largest after the Grand Canyon - but we could be wrong!) and it's probably the most stunning scenery we have ever driven through. And now we are in Cagnes-sur-Mer about 20 miles from Nice, catching up with laundry and making the most of the hot showers (well luke warm!) after 4 days without one (we are both smelling worse than Alfie!).
