Stormy seas, long days and no food!
Entry 3 of 38 | show all | print this entry |
Well, after a mammoth 8hr journey to Portsmouth (thanks to my crap navigating and not Nics slow driving) via a huge traffic jam around Heathrow (yes i know we didn't have to go that way!!) we arrived at the ferry port 23hrs early and because it was quiet they let us on a day early so we drove on to the Pont-Aven 20 mins before departing, if i had of known that the journey was going to be a remake for Perfect Storm we may have suffered all the chavs and spent the night in Portsmouth. We put Alfie in his Kennel (Alfie is a dog not a small child by the way)and headed up to our cabin, which was small but perfectly formed, its when we left the cabin things started to go a wobbly, litterally!! The boat was swaying madly from side to side and back and forth and after eating something and sitting down for a drink, after telling Nic we wouldn't be sea sick i started to have mad sweats and felt really ill, i havent felt like that since a night on the vodka many years ago,it was time to go to to bed and hopefully wake up in France dry!!! Well we survived the journey and after spending an hour looking round St Malo for a place to park that didn't have height barriers,we failed misserably thought we would just park at the side of the road and then thought again after deciding we didnt want the van towed away by some irate frenchman who took a dislike to all our tacky christmas decorations! So we headed off to Dinan, no we didnt we headed for Mont St Michal but got lost and ended up in Dinan which was very nice. After spending a night parked free at Dinan port we headed off again this time for Nantes, but we decided after seeing all the graffity, traffic and dodgy looking people we would go somewhere else, so we headed to LaRochelle, where we found graffiti, traffic and dodgy looking people and on top of this spent almost 2 hours looking for somewhere to park! After a quick look round we realised it wasn't that bad and went to bed to the sound of boy racers doing handbrake turns(much better than counting sheep). So here we are almost on the Spanish border ready to hit Spain tommorow, and all is good,Daisy is behaving well(touching wood again)Alfie is behaving really well and Nic is being Herself!!!
See Ya soon Rob
