Hong Kong - the Peak

Well here I am in an Internet Cafe in Nathan Road - arrived safely on 17th having had a farewell dinner and some champagne on Tuesday evening with my family. Had a great flight - after a few glasses of champagne and dinner on the flight (I decided to do the trip Business/First Class) I was tucked up in bed and slept like a baby the whole way - 12 hour flight to Hong Kong - arrived fairly refreshed and checked into my hotel - the Airport Express bus to Kowloon was great - so smooth and silent. Today, I met a friend of Karen's called Laura who very kindly agreed to meet me at 10 am to get me on my way! We went up the Peak and walked all around the top - great views and picture opportunities - then Laura took me for my very first Dim Sum for lunch - quite an interesting experience - beautiful food including steamed and deep fried prawns, wontons with spinach and shredded vegetables inside, accompanied by lots of Jasmine tea - got back to the hotel at about 6 pm and was absolutely whacked! Laura is very fit and a hiker and walker - not like me right now! We saw quite a bit of Hong Kong Island. It was great for me to be taken around by a "local". Tonight I am going to Temple Street night market. First impressions of HK are friendly and helpful people and a very buzzing place - not humid at this time of year and a nice temperature. Tomorrow am going to Lantau Island so will update before I go to Bangkok on Monday next. Have got to sort out how to upload pics!!

Hello from Marion (reply) Dec 7, 2005 10:43 EST by britbtc
Glad to hear you are going along beautifully and having such a great time.
When will you be in Sydney? I will finish my work this week and be on my way soon as I can. I will be there by Christmas. Hope to see you!
Let me know your itinerary if you can, so that I can organise myself and not miss you.
Love and best wishes, Marion

Glad to hear you arrived safely and enjoying it - even the food! You picked a very good time to leave UK - it has been freezing, so very envious. Take care - lots of love Steve
