10th Feb - I now have the next 5 days to tell you about.  I was picked up at 6 am by taxi to go to the ferry at Koh Samui - it was a good ferry crossing - our bus went on the boat with us - this took one and a half hours on the ferry - when we got to the other end we had a 3 hour drive to Krabi and arrived there at about 4.30 pm.  You have to allow for stoppages to pick up people, the bus being late, the ferry late leaving - I am now getting used to "Thai time" - once you accept that nothing runs on time then you will have a stress-free trip.  My B&B in Krabi was great - lots of very helpful staff and good food.  I decided to go to Koh Phi Phi the next day for snorkeling.  We went on a high-speed boat, which stopped at Bamboo island for swimming, then on to Phi Phi Nae to see the cliffs and inlets, then to Phi Phi for snorkeling - some beautiful fish to be seen - I had not done any snorkeling since I was in the Galapagos, so it was like starting all over again but it was fine once I got going.  Our next stop was at another island for an hour's swim but it was so packed with boats on day trips that there was very little room to swim!

We stopped for lunch at Phi Phi Don island - all 45 of us - it was a set buffet and was OK. After lunch we had another stop at Monkey Island to feed the monkeys some watermelon.  It was a bit staged so not very interesting - really just a photo opportunity.  Our final stop was for more snorkeling in the open sea - just jump off the boat and see all the same fish we had seen before.

We got back to Krabi at about 5.30 pm having had a full-on day - but most enjoyable.  However, I am glad I am not staying on Phi Phi island - it is soooo  crowded.

12th and 13th Feb - I was up again to catch a bus at 8 am to go to Koh Lanta island for 2 nights.  My favourite place so far.  I stayed in a really nice place with individual bungalows in the grounds - it was called Papillon - owned by a Belgian lady - she made all her own pastries, croissants, pain au chocolat and ciabatta breads.  The beach is the best one I have been on so far - so 7/10 - warm turquoise calm sea - walking a little like on the side of a hill, one foot below the other so not good for bad knees.  I had drinks on the beach and watched the sun go down on the first evening with some ladies from the guesthouse - then went back to Papillon for dinner and a nice chilled glass of wine - I bet you wondered "what - no mention of wine? she must be having withdrawal symptoms!!  Anyway, I had a really chilled out time there - they had a gorgeous swimming-pool shaped out of the ground in the gardens - really unique and interestingly shaped.

I left there at 3 pm - I use that timing loosely - it was actually 3.45 when he arrived to pick me up.  He drove back to Krabi like he had ants in his pants!!  I soon found out why - 6 of the people had to catch a plane out of Krabi airport to BKK - hence the Lewis Hamilton driving.  We got back in one piece at about 6.30 pm - just in time for dinner and another film - "The Other Guy" - a really light-hearted spoof - just what I needed to calm my nerves after the race back.

15th Feb - I left this morning at 11.30 am to take a long bus drive to Khao Lak - luckily, I got to drive up front with the driver so it was bearable.  I will send this out now and continue when I get to the end of this part of my trip - eg Phuket on 20th Feb.

I have to say that Charlotte and I can honestly say meeting you in Lanta was a real pleasure.
We are now in Koh Samui and it very busy here. Nice to have a bit of life again after a nice long chill....
Anyway, I just want to say that you are a real inspiration for us both and hope to see you again in the future....

Take care xxx

Hi Brigid
It all sounds wonderful, I did love Thailand when we visited, don't know why we have not been back, perhaps because it has become so popular now. I also have played golf in the rain today, managed a half against Sue Weight so I am happy with the result X

Glad you did not over sleep after our late night chat!
It all sounds wonderful. I had a nice time today with Der. We walked to the Marina and despite the rain, it was enjoyable. Very quiet here without you. BT will shake things up tomorrow. Take care and chat soon. x
