We arrived in BKK at 4 pm on 2nd Feb. I had a taxi booked to meet me at the airport - this took me all the way to my B&B in Hua Hin - a three hour journey - for GBP40 - what a bargain - can you imagine going from Brighton to the Midlands by taxi for 40 pounds. My B&B in Hua Hin was great - really comfortable - friendly staff - good breakfast each morning - a huge Tesco just down the street (so I did not have any withdrawal symptoms!) - a night market with excellent food stalls - great grilled king prawns etc.
The beach was rather a disappointment - very narrow and when high tide came in, you could not walk on the beach. The sea was very rough and had jellyfish so not good for swimming. Hua Hin is a large town, with lots of hotels along the beach - many 5* eg The Banyan Tree and The Chedi Son Spa. The majority (95%) of tourists there are Scandinavian. I went to see the Railway Station - which is quite unique - Hua Hin is the King of Thailand's summer residence, but for me, I have no desire to go back there. Having spent 2 full days there, I was happy to move on. So - would I recommend it? Not really - especially as the beach was so crowded and thin - not much option for a quiet read or swim - unless you are a really good swimmer and do not mind rough, surf-like seas.
