Trop chaud. Trop dangereux.

I leave Augrabies Falls very early. Quickly I find my way to the Namibian border and loose the tar. My first dirt road!. A long strip of white dust. Disturbed a moment, the dust flies behind me.

The whining strip finds its way between the mountains. The border post at last! The real start of this adventure is here. The paperwork done, I find my-self in that no man's land. A smile appears on a face tanned after 3 months of Botswana. It's not going to disappear anytime soon.

The Namibian customs agent put me back on the ground some how. Not really a problem, just an annoyance. I got the habit to use my French passport every time I go somewhere for the first time. I collect visa stamps. And I do that on that passport (it was the only one I had when I started). Unfortunately the customs officer wants to put his stamp on the passport that shows I left South Africa. I try to explain, but habits are hard to change. A little upset, I give my Canadian passport. The road is waiting for me outside.

Fish River Canyon is probably like the Namibians say it: the second largest canyon in the world. Just after the Great one. Except here, there's no vegetation. The rocks are bare and black. The heat, intense at the top, is unbearable at the bottom and the hiking trail that brings courageous hikers along the whiny river for four days at the bottom, is closed between September 15 and April 15. Too hot. Too dangerous.
