After months of delays. I'm on the road at last. Actually in the air for now. The excitement is such that I can't sit still in my seat in the airplane. That's not good for a pilot. On arrival, and to my disappointment, I learn that another customer's delay has now become my own. Luckily they were able to give me a Land Rover Freelander until the Defender returns and catches up with me along the road.

I don't like the Freelander! I want the car I hired! But nothing can't stop me now. The journey starts. If this is the only delay I will consider myself lucky. South Africa is a beautiful country. Johannesburg is a colorful city, full of trees. As a matter of fact, it's the biggest man made forest in the world. In the spring when the trees are in bloom, the entire canopy is purple.

At last I leave Joburg and hit the country side. Nothing special there. The South African country side looks like every other ones. At least the ones from our countries. Along the road, the name of a Guest House catches my eyes, Mata Hari. I decide to spend the night. By some strange twist of faith, the owner is Namibian. He has a lot of tips and ideas for me. What to do, what to see, where to go. Once again, my lucky star precedes me and luck smiles at me.

In the early morning, the Defender shows up at the entrance of the Guest House. I feel light and ready. We quickly trade vehicles and sign the papers and I'm on my way for real adventures. That second day of driving is eventless. I arrive at the Augrabies falls in the late afternoon. Disappointing. I can't wait to hit the road again and enter Namibia. But it's time to set up camp for the night right now. I'm going to spend my first night in my car. Or ON my car, I should say...
