This mining town has the longest running mines which are still operating and even experiencing a boom (not very noticeable since all the pubs were closed early). As an aboriginal inspired project they've got several sculptures in the "living desert" which were made by some international artists (mainly from Georgia during their war). We liked the angles of the sun but some of the others were a little difficult to interpret.

Mad Max II was filmed in Silverton, a small ghost town outside Broken Hill so now we've seen two Mad Max locations, the first being Coober Pedy. The drive here goes along a pretty bad road with 39 dips which could easily be used to launch any vehicle into the air if it's going too fast. It's pretty easy to see why they chose these deserted areas but now we've got to see the film again to see if we recognise anything. It's not like Udaipur in India where they continually show Octopussy in all restaurants and guest houses.

To get to the national park (Mutawintji) involved driving 80km of unsealed sandy road, really not what the car was built for. The dust gets everywhere including inside leaving a fine covering on the seats. The drive was often be hair raising, slipping through sand and going over pot holes, much worse than a roller coaster since there are no safety features when rolling the car over. Afterwards the walk takes you through some different scenery, rocks, gorges, and gum trees.

One of the wierdest james bond movies. he was so old by this time, it was hard to believe he was able to fight guys half his age. I like the art, it seems to interpret the desert in texture.
No safety features ONCE the car rolls over...haha LOL.
Thanks for the update and nice to hear from you.
