The north island and the capital of New Zealand, although it's pretty small by international standards it's the biggest most populated place we've been in since Melbourne. Dom felt a bit claustrophobic for a few hours with all those people, cars and pollution around (she's now back to normal).
Met up with a real kiwi (Andrew) who we know from France, time was tight so we only managed a beer or two but it was good to go around with a local so we didn't get trapped in any dodgy bars. The city has more hills than you can shake a stick at and each one is steeper than the next. Cannot think of anywhere else where it's so hard to get around on 2 feet. We gave our legs a really good workout by going up mt. victoria on one side of town and the botanic garden on the other side.
Not really much else to say, the museum Te Papa is a must visit with a good introduction to maori culture and some geology. NZ is situated on two of the earths plates geology and vulcanism play a large part in its shaping and history. More thumbnails ...
