City of Temples

Sukothai the most ancient capital of Thailand, our journey here took something like six hours, firstly in a fridge (air con was too high) but as a reward dinner and a snack were served. Following this we had a slow bus in one of the most polluted and damaged roads ever, bonjour le mal au cul! We thought Ayuthaya was temple land but in fact it could equally well be here since they have a large historical park full of them, estimates say around 200 in the city's prime. Those still standing are in various states of repair the buddhas even sitting rising to 15 metres.
The visit is made by bicycle for the most part and judging by the number of shops renting it seems like a good business even at 0,5 centimes euro per day. Another thing which is quite cheap is the petrol coming in at 0,55 centimes the litre which explains the number of 4x4 we've seen. The town is pretty quiet after 7pm except for the outdoor aerobics which appears to motivate a huge crowd (photo) and Dom (no photo). The garden guest house was pretty good, helpful and always showing english films, of course we had noisy girls next door!! Just before we leaving had a foot massage outside Wat Mahatat where we tried to learn the thai alphabet, but with 44 letters we only managed this photo.
Where I stayed:
Garden Guest House
