2nd Day in Amsterdam

The second day in Amsterdam started with a cheeky lie in, which meant the bike tour I was planning on doing was postponed until tomorrow in favour of a canal tour.
When I first arrived in town I headed to the largest park, the VondelPark, which was just starting to get busy as the sun was emerging. There were flurries of bikes and rollerskaters in every direction - I just about managed to escape without being mowed down.
I shook the sleepiness off and went for a wonder to the back of the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum and opera house and then to a little market, hidden away down a side street - it was Carnaby street-esque, the way the shops and cafes opened onto the narrow yet modern street.
Completely oblivious to the sunburn fast coming my way, I then took an hours open-top canal boat ride around the city sights - tilting houses, oldest buildings in the city, buildings with mice on, and into the harbour - past NEMO and the flotel and Sea Palace - the chinese restaurant replica.
I met dad in town at the War Memorial...
And we visited various amusing sites together... the Hash Museum (it has its own truck!), and the Red Light district...
I also took him to see the art exhibition, and together we took a few photos.
We were going to watch the Champions League final in town, but it was on a bit late to get back to the hotel, so we went and watched it in the Ibis bar, but the less said about that, the better!
