G'day all,

just dragged ourselves off the beach so that we could let you know that the beach is great, the water is warm and happy hour begins at 5 :) We are on Koh Phanang Island at the moment after enjoying three nights on Koh Samui on Lamai beach. Our last day on Samui was spent zipping around the island on a scooter. Awsome fun and terrifying at times. Upon setting out in the morning we were looking a little shaky not helped by some heavy rain. Once we worked out our cornering though there was no stopping us. We took off around the island and ended up parking and treking up to a really cool waterfall called Hin Lad. It was about 1km track through some pretty rough country to get there but well worth it when we were enjoying a fresh water shower at the falls (check out the pics if i manage to get them up ). From there it was off to the main port where we sampled the local food stalls opting for the unidentified curried something or other in the bbqd bannana leaf. Further north on the island was The Big Buddah located at Big Buddah beach (surprisingly enough). Buddah was about 40m tall and enjoyed some stunning views over the bay. Back on the bike and on our way home we were begining to liken ourselves to Ewen and Charlie from the Long Way Round... By the time we were home and fed we were pretty shattered and retired early (but not hurt) ready for the trip to Koh Phanang.

Koh Phanang

Decided to shoot for the well regarded, dreamy beaches of the north East of the island. We managed to hook up with another couple who were headed the same way, so mind made up we embarked on a off road adventure on the very average tracks to this more remote part of the island (very hilly, dirt roads). We wernt dissapointed when we arrived although this was perhaps the last time that Cath will stay with the packs whilst I choose accomadation. We are in a hut perched on some rocks in the canopies of the trees mere meters from the beach....complete with very basic bathroom with large troughs of stale water which confuse me and disgust Cath. We have settled in thought and had a great night on the beach with afew beers and cocktails just because it felt appropriate. Today we opted for a bit more beach action and I went for a swim to another beach around a rocky peninsular about 1km each way. At the moment we are trying to figure out how to get to Bankok relatively cheaply and in some degree of comfort. We may well just settle for cheap.

I will now try to upload some photos as promised.

PS Having a few probs with the photos, more when we get it sorted out!
