Hello all!
Well we finally arrived after what turned out to be a fairly long rout with Tiger Aiways through Singapore. Note to new players - pay the extra 20 bucks to choose the best seats on the plkane with the extra leg room and bring the winter jacket for the airconditioning in singapores Budget Terminal.
We spent a total of 2 nights in Phuket before making ourt escapre to Kao Samui. Phuket was nice, but definately land of the label knockoff, pirate DVD,s and the enthusiastic shop owner. When travelling from a backpack these places are best avoided, and Cath and I settled for a good pair of sandals (expensive) as our feet were not handling the pace to well in the old flip flops. We definately look a bit tradgic now in our sandals, zip off pants and tees. There are definately different classes of backpackers when it comes to appearance, we are now very keen to break the married German backpacker look and try be just a little bit hip in the hope of making some friends.
We managed to work out the local bus system (bus drives up behind you, beeps and you turn and look enthusiastic if you want it to stop so that you can clamber in the back). The buses are great, open air bench seats in what is a cross between a small truck and a ute. 25bht to get around as opposed to up to 400bht in a tuk tuk or taxi. We did well to find the local government central bus station in Phuket and organise tickets to Kao Samui via a 6 hour bus / 2 hour ferry trip. We only just made it there and were really running around amazing race style to get the bus in time (tequila the night before setr us behind a bit).
Kao Samui is awsome and we are staying at Beers Beach bungalows at the moment. We started off next door but only booked for one night and got booted this morning. We walked all of 10meters to our new bungalow, which is close enough to the water to be swept away with the next high tide. Most accomadation here has a rather unique toilet system, the details of which we will be sure to share as soon as we can work it out ourselves. In the mean time we will just hold on.
the weather has been overcast with the occaisional shower but still warm. Definately low season but suits us fine. The plan is to do a bit of concerted relaxing on the beach today and maybe rent a scooter tomorrow to check out the local waterfall and some of the other beaches. I think we will easily manage a couple more nights here...
I havnt got the camera with me but I will be sure to try and upload some photos shortly, if only to allow people sit at their desks at work and have a mini daydream about what it might be like to be lyning on a beach on a tropical island...
By for now.
Oh and if somebody could occaisionally post the Dockers results it would be most appreciated...unless of course they continue to loose.

Same Same...but different! (reply) Jul 9, 2007 21:40 EST by keefy_beefy
Hey guys
I can totally picture everything you described in your blog. It seems like only last week since I was there. Make sure you get lots of massages. They are so cheap, and I'm sure you'll be needing them after carting your backpacks from one place to another.
How beautiful is Ko Samui? It's an island paradise. The closest I'm gonna get to an escape to some exotic place in th... show all

Nice to hear from you guys. Glad to hear that you've arrived safe and sound. Sounds like you're having an interesting time!
Nothing too exciting happening in Perth and you don't really want to be kept up to date with the Docker's results I can assure you! If things change however I'll be sure to keep you posted.
We're still '3' week's away from moving into our new house ha ha!... show all
