We've had a mammoth driving day between the cities of Dunhuang and Golmud and it's been our last chance to get all our laundry done before three nights bush camping on our way to Lhasa. For that matter it's probably going to be our last chance to breathe easily as at a little over 3,000 metres Golmud is positively oxygen-flooded compared to the dizzy heights we're going to be ascending in a few days.
Sian found our stay relatively uneventful - a trip to the night market to eat some of the spiciest food we've ever tasted. But after Sian had headed off for an early night it was a different story for me - several local off-duty policemen we met were very keen to drink with their new foreign friends (the Chinese seem to rarely sip their drink - the equivalent of cheers is 'gambei' literally, and they do take it literally, 'finish your glass'...)
