Amazing how quickly my mood can swing. I went from a total high the day before to my lowest low this day. I got a slow start to the morning with a stop at the electronics shop to pick up a sun shade for the camera before finally making it to Heaven Temple. The crowds were in their usual full force especially given it was a Sunday. Tourist stick out from a mile away and on this day I became a target. Yep, somewhere between the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest and the Circular Mound my wallet was stolen. Luckily the nice Spanish couple that I spent the day with kept me company as we retraced our steps. It was really sweet of them to stay with me and remind me that yes it is a pain in the butt but that since I have back up cards, it isn't the end of the world. I needed to be reminded of that as my initial reaction was to get upset.

Thankfully my host Hengna came to the rescue and met me at the Temple. Together we filed a police report on site where two other Americans were in the same situation. In a way I was relieved to learn that it was a robbery and not just me being careless and dropping it while searching for a pen, which was what I thought happened initially. Fortunately all they got was my ATM, my Capital One card, a little cash and my $100USD train ticket to Shanghai which I had to repurchase for a day later.

What a way to spend a Sunday. Hengna was amazing as she fronted me money to repurchase my train ticket to Shanghai for $100USD, schleped around with me from Police station to agency where I bought my first train ticket with hopes that they could reissue me a new one, since they required my passport to book the ticket, from there to the train station until finally home.

That night we went for Peking duck, a Beijing speciality before Mr. Loo chaufered us to the Olympic Park to snap some photos. Unable to book a ticket for Monday I had another day in Beijing with which I got to business cancelling cards, ordering new ones and just relaxing at the apartment. I spent the last night having Korean BBQ with Hengna and her sister across the street at the mall which is also where Hengna’s office is located so I had a chance to see her office. It could be an office almost anywhere in the world, one large room with 100 computers but the interesting thing was that there were no real signs of individuality anywhere, each desktop was immaculate. Hengna’s sister spent the night in my room that night and the next morning I packed my bags, said farewell and headed for the train station.
