Selcuk is the town just at the base of Ephesus, otherwise there isn't much else there. Mehmet from the restaurant below offers free shuttle to the ruins so we piled up for a late afternoon visit. These really are very complete from 352BC. Upon entering I came across the first of two intact amphitheaters where I also made the acquaintance of a family from Washington D.C.: Clay, the dad and a professor at Siena College; Harper, his 14 year old mature but girly daughter and Dillion, his 11 year old blue eyed, blond hair son who knew if he behaved would see ice cream and a swimming pool at the end of the day.

We spent the full 3.5 hours touring around the ruins, with the kids reciting the history behind the important monuments. The library fašade is the most impressive with the dual level columns and marble statues still in their place.

We completed our self-guided tour, including the Austrian sponsored indoor exhibit of the living quarters, under extensive restoration, around 7:00PM where Alibaba, Mahmet’s brother picked us up.

That night I wandered into town, all of two blocks, in search of some dinner. Ironically, I bumped right into Clay and the kids who promptly invited me to join them. It was a pleasure to be in a relaxed state and could’ve easily spent a few more days just chilling out at ANZ Guesthouse but it was time to pack and prepare for my journey to Denizli and Pamukkale.
