Cycling around Pokhara
Entry 17 of 19 | show all | print this entry |
After Sharon's departure, I've met up with Salve, Riza and Claire, (the volunteer at the orphanage). They're in town for a break as well. We rented bikes and cycled around Pokhara and headed to meet the famous 3 Chetri sisters. We met with the eldest of the 3, Lucky, and heard about this wonderful project of theirs to train local women to become trekking guides. Annually, they take 30 women and teach them to speak English, self confidence and everything a Himalayan trekker needs to know. In addition, they run a small, but charming guest house facing the lake and run an orphanage next door. They've had a lot written about them in the international press. I recommend you have a look directly at their website, such an inspiration to all us girlies out there. By the way, they're always looking for volunteers to help them, particularly in July and August, if anyone is ineterested...
