This is Africa...
A few TIA moments...
Simon (5 yrs old) and his sister Regina (3 yrs old ) attend our school. They live with their grandparents, some cousins and aunts. Neither Simon nor Regina were at school one day. We later found out that the grandparents Had to work, the cousins went to school and the aunts had to go to the market... So Simon and Regina had to stay home to "mind the house" and make sure no one stole the cow. True story.
There is a movie theater in town that shows 2 films. We treated ourselves one night. 4 hrs, one intermission and 3 power outages later we went home.
I hikes 8 mile for avocados. 8 miles.
Someone pushed the emergency button at the orphanage. No one has confessed as of yet. A truck came racing up the mountain and 4 men came to our "rescue" with full gear: helmet with face masks and guns.
Sand was delivered to the school to be mixed with cement. It arrived at 8 a.m. on a Monday, blocking the entrance to the school.
We wanted to make a cake for one of the volunteer's birthdays. Given
the lack of instant cake mix, we found the ingredients to make it by
scratch. Mama Joyce then told us we would have to wait until 6 o'clock
for milk because the cow wasn't ready.
There is one bold chicken who enters the house daily. Yesterday it
wandered into on of the volunteer bedrooms and on to Carly's bed.
While heading toward the window, it got caught in the mosquito net.
That scared him enough to go to the bathroom. How often do you have
to deal with chicken "stuff" in your bed?
