I am truly impressed by Cheri's stamina. After a transatlantic flight, I always feel like crawling in bed and dying, but Cheri was up for a 375 meter (1230 feet) hike up the Heiligenberg ("Holy Mountain") to see the ruins of an old monastery there and enjoy an excellent view of Heidelberg. Afterward we had dinner at Zum Roten Ochsen ("to the Red Oxen"), which serves traditional German food (e.g., pickled red cabbage) and was once frequented by Mark Twain and Marilyn Monroe. Very touristy, but a nice ambience with the tables and walls covered with autograph-carvings from the (mainly university student) patrons over the years. We especially enjoyed the gregarious pianist, who also apparently enjoyed Cheri and me and our singing along to his jazzy renditions of pop tunes: as we were leaving, he said to us: "Schade, dass ihr gehen müsst!" (It's a shame you have to go!)
