This entry covers Friday and Saturday - our last two days of work on the two projects we have been involved with. The ladies finished their slum ministry on Friday morning surrounded by dozens of smiling children - especially happy as they were receieving new shoes which we had decided to buy them. This was suggested by Solomon, the man responsible for ministry to this community and hugely apporeciated by the children. No fuss over colour or stye - just appreciation of what they were receiving. This has been a very rewarding and humbling experience and we can't wait to share our stories - and a few thousand photos - when we get back.
Painting continued on Friday with the church hall starting to look great after several days of hard work of scraping off cracked paint and plaster, followed by lots of replastering, sanding, and general preperation. The colour - a light dusty pink - is going to make the place look so much better. On Saturday, a few of us, including our special female guest, Asenla, got a 6.30am start to make sure we'd be all done by lunch time. Sure enough - at 12.30pm we left the sight very pleased with the work we'd done - the place looks soooo much better than when we arrived.
Both ministries have brought their challenges - mostly due to the heat and the dust and the dirt and the noise - but we've managed to complete what we came here to do and that's a great feeling.
