We performed two highlight shows for the grand opening of the $500 million equestrian-themed Escape development in Ajman. The fire show was a powerful mix of fire-dance and acrobatics with customised choreographies suited to the location, and our new premiere show - 'Stilts on Fire' - was played, or I should say exploded, for the very first time.

The stilt characters are wonderfully surreal just on their own - grandly imposing, animated circus creatures with comic-book style features - and then they start shooting pyrotechnic fountains and rockets out in an explosion of stilt-dancing and music. The audience response was great - noone had seen a performance like that before, ever. It's a great new show that fills a niche for certain outdoor environments and parts of the show will feature combined with aerial and other elements in our next major project - the Dubai World Cup, coming up 29 March 2008.

It's quite dangerous really, and although the costumes have a built-in safety release mechanism the artists have to be excellent stilt-walkers and take the greatest care. Sometimes I feel we have to act as a team with a 100% sense of exact position and timing that is almost unparallelled in other professions.

We (the 'Stilts on Fire' characters) came back after our show to hold up three meter high burning letter which spelled out the word 'Escape'. It looked amazing and hopefully I'll get hold of some better photos to post.
