There were several stages lined up along the beach with a broad range of entertainment over three nights. Acts included the Shenzo Stunt Orchestra from Australia, Beat of the Drum, Puppets Parade, Chicken Comic Music, Carillon 3.0, traditional Arabic dancers, famous local singers, flower-dropping paragliders, pyrotechnic-shooting paragliders in formation and our Steel on Fire performance, a collaboration between Phoenix and Drumatical, as an evening highlight.
Despite all this entertainment it seemed most of the Abu Dhabi population preferred to sit grid-locked in one mighty traffic jam, fervently honking their horns and revving their brand new, high-powered car engines until they painfully backfired. Being near the road sounded like a mix between a war zone and a drag race track whilst noone at all was going anywhere fast! I shudder to think how much oil was burnt up in the whole clamourous process.
Our shows were in front of a stadium audience of about 5000 people and on the final night even the Sheik himself was present. On that same night the danger factor was greatly increased by a nearby water fountain that was being used a projection screen. It sent a fine mist of spray into the air that settled on the surface of the stage making it incredibly slippery for our dancing and acrobatics. All the artists that night had to play much more carefully to avoid landing end up in the middle of the show. The festival's finish was marked with an unspeakably gigantic fireworks display.
