The Grand-Hyatt is one of the most luxurious hotels in Dubai. The foyer alone is a distinctive statement of opulence, largesse and grandeure, with its beautiful boat-shaped roof, artificial indoor jungle and enormously intricate, modern Arabic artworks.

It was a private event for one of the locals who'd returned with his PhD from a prestigious university abroad. The Stillman Statues were meant as tasteful decorative pieces enhancing the classical, academic mood.
A violin player walked amongst the guests as they partook from the buffet, and later there were speeches, a documentary-style video presentation and a show on stage. The guests seemed especially fascinated by the living statues and they interacted with us, giggling like children, and took photos on their mobile phones. Later I received an email of thanks stating that we were "the highlight of the evening". I was honoured, it was a low-key but very delightful event to be a part of.

Afterwards we had to walk for what seemed kilometers to clean up in the hotel's health club bathrooms. The showers were like a dream - turkish-bath style with l'Occitane soap and the hugest, softest towels. Highly recommended. Unfortunately I had to leave the same night for a small gig in Wels, Austria. It was a busy week.
