We walked from my uncle's house to the bus stop which took about 30 mins, and just missed a bus but eventually arrived in Manhattan around 11am, after a 1hr bus ride. The first place we went to was Ground Zero - the former site of the World Trade Centre Towers. You can still catch the subway there but now you have to get off at the previous stop. There are fences all around the site for obvious reasons but you can still see a lot of the site. There is a memorial there, as well as a timeline of that fateful day, and a plaque engraved with all the names of those who died. There are still a lot of people who come to visit the site, and it's a very eerie atmosphere as you walk around.

After Ground Zero we walked around to Battery Park to get a distant view of the Statue of Liberty. We then met up with my friend Pakhi for lunch and she showed us where the Abercrombie & Fitch store was (Graham wanted to do some shopping!) After Pakhi had gone back to work, we went to view the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges before making our way to Times Square. Times Square is tacky and touristy but still worth a look just to see everything lit up. We also went to Rockfeller Centre - which is a big shopping centre, before meeting Pakhi again for some food and drink.

We ate at Jekyll and Hyde Theme Restaurant which was okay. I'd been there once before in 2000 and had remembered it as being pretty reasonably priced and a bit of fun, but this time the food seemed expensive and the entertainment was just annoying. The food did taste good though.

Afterwards we went to Greenwich Village for a few drinks. Greenwich Village is where the locals hang out and escape from the throngs of tourists. It looks like a very nice place to be, as there are lots of bars, restaurants and theatres to visit. We didn't stay as long as we would have liked as we had to get the bus back to New Jersey but we'll definitely be back!
