Goodbye New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere

We spent Wednesday and Thursday in Auckland just pottering around doing a bit of shopping and sightseeing. First place we went to was the Auckland Skytower. We bought a ticket to the Main Observation Deck, and got a YHA discount. For an extra $3 you can go to the higher deck but didn't bother with this. We had a walk round and admired the views, before watching a few crazy people doing the Sky Jump. Almost as daft as doing the Vertigo Climb. Wouldn't catch us doing either of those.
After the tower we did a bit of shopping and then returned in the evening to the casino for some cheap fish and chips and a look around.
On Thursday we wandered down to the Maritime Museum as there was an exibition about the Rainbow Warrior. However we were running low on NZ money so we decided not to go in the end. In the evening we went to Minus 5, which is an ice bar. It's a very cool experience, literally! and it costs $25 for 30mins and you get a free cocktail with that. They also give you coats and gloves to wear so that you don't get too cold, and more importantly, so that you can pick up your drink! After that, to warm up we went back to the casino and had a meal at their Chinese restaurant, which was very tasty. It was then back to the hostel to finish packing and get a good night's sleep.
Our flight was on Friday 1st July at 6pm, so after checking out of the hostel we walked along the harbour front to the Barmy Army HQ to have a look around. It seemed like a good place to be to watch the Lions matches. Shame we were leaving! Got to the airport in good time, but our flight was delayed and we left an hour late. More thumbnails ...
