Snowboarding Attempt Number 2
Entry 105 of 133 | show all | print this entry |
|
When we woke up, I wasn't sure that snowboarding would still be on as I'd heard rain through the night, but luckily for us it was. Weather wasn't too brilliant, cloudy and a bit drizzly. We drove up to the ski field which was about 12km from Discovery Lodge, and 6km from Whakapapa Village. We bought the Discovery Package which included snowboard and boots hire as well as lift passes. I also hired some waterproof trousers. This came to $98 - about 40 pounds. We also hired wrist guards for free.
As it was the first day it wasn't very busy, and the lesson was just the two of us and our instructor Bob. We had a 1hr lesson before we were let loose on the slopes. The Discovery Package gives you the rest of the day on the slopes. We had a lot of fun sliding down the slopes and falling down a lot.
We had lunch in the cafe overlooking the slope but it started to rain heavily so we decided to call it a day, and looked around the shop before going back down the mountain to Discovery Lodge. At least we can say that we've snowboarded on Mordor and the slopes of Mount Doom! (The ski field was used in the Lord of the Rings films!) More thumbnails ...
