We arrived at Hervey Bay on Tuesday 5th April at around 3pm. We only had a few hours before our briefing at 6pm so we wandered around to the shops and then to the beach. Hervey Bay is a lot bigger than Rainbow Beach and the beach is a lot calmer. (Rainbow Beach is the last place in Queensland where you can surf, if you are travelling Northwards).
After we came back from Fraser Island we had 3hrs on the Saturday morning between checking out and catching the bus so we had another look round. There isn't an awful lot to do in Hervey Bay but there is Vic Hislop's Great White Expo. This is an interesting museum full of photos and even some shark jaw bones to show you exactly how big the ferocious animals mouths span open. There are also some interesting news articles documenting the man in question. Another popular tourist centre in Hervey Bay is Neptune Reef World which is a moderate aquarium.
We didn't go to either as we have been to similar musuems and we were tired from our adventures on Fraser, so we relaxed at the hostel and watched some tv.
