Blue Mountains

We took a day trip to Blue Mountains today. It was a long train ride - over 2hrs to get to Katoomba, but it was quite a scenic journey so we didn't mind too much. It's best to take a long sleeved top though as the air con is always on high in the trains.
We arrived in Katoomba around lunchtime so stopped at a bakery for a sandwich. Then it was a short walk to Scenic World. At Scenic World, they have 3 things you can do, Flyway, Railway and Skyway. We chose to catch the Flyway down to the Jamison Valley, do a 40min walk and catch the Railway back up. The Flyway is the steepest aerial cable car in Australia, and the Railway is the steepest incline railway in the world! The Skyway goes from the top of the cliff across to another point and back again, but it has a glass floor so there was no way I was doing that!
Going down the cliff on Flyway takes only a few minutes and the views are excellent. Coming back up on the Railway, whilst facing the bottom of the valley was a very scary experience and not one I'd like to repeat. The walk along the valley was nice though. From the top of Scenic World, we walked to Echo Point and the 3 Sisters. A very pleasant walk through the Blue Mountains National Park, and the weather was perfect as well. After that we walked back to Katoomba for the long train ride home and a quiet night! More thumbnails ...
