Today we hired a car, with the two American girls, Kyle and Lennae, that we met on the Kakadu trip. We went to the Darwin Crocodile farm and then onto Litchfield National Park. When hiring a car, be wary of some companies that will try to charge you for kilometres. Make sure you get one that either has unlimited KMs or like we did, has more than enough KMs to get you to your destination.

The crocodile farm was 40KM from Darwin and was quite good, although if we had been there at 2pm that would have been better, as that is feeding time. There are 2 other crocodile places - Crocydylus Park and the Jumping Croc Cruise, but these are more expensive. Darwin Crocodile Farm costs $10. We saw many crocodiles and a couple of alligators as well. Also saw some juvenile crocs - they still looked scary though!

After the Croc farm, we headed to Litchfield NP. It is 130KM from Darwin so with 400km we had plenty to spare. We headed to Florence Falls first, for a swim. The water was a lot cooler and more refreshing than at Kakadu, but it was a lot less remote, so more people than at Kakadu.

After a spot of lunch, we then headed to Wangi falls for another swim. Right by the waterfall there was a little (and I mean little) rock pool that we climbed up to and swam in. The rock pool is very deep so you have to be good at treading water, but is a nice little sun trap so well worth having a dip!

We headed back to Darwin after that, and had enough kilometres left over to drop Kyle and Lennae at the airport that evening. Car hire is 24hrs which is very handy.

It's a very cheap day trip to do, and one that doesn't need 4WD as roads are all tarmac. Only worth doing if more than one of you, otherwise you can book a tour for around the same price if you are a single traveller.
