Last week saw the start of the Wellington Film Festival, which is staying until 3rd August. This is a chance to see some of the more contempary small budget films from around the world, and there is a huge variety of films to choose from.

We have seen two films. The first one, Man on Wire, was one that a work colleague, Colin suggested we go and see together, with his wife Jules as well. It's about a guy who tightrope walked between the twin trade towers in 1974. Something completely different from what we normally go to see but very good and an interesting look at how security has changed since the 70s.

The other film we went to see on our own, was a Graham choice, A Complete History of my Sexual Failures. I was a bit sceptical as to whether this would be any good or not, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a film about a guy who tracks down all his ex girlfriends to find out why they dumped him. Very funny but a bit risque at times!

Yesterday I went to watch Cinderella on Ice, with Claire, as both Graham, and Claire's partner Pete weren't at all interested in going. I saw the same company production of Swan Lake on Ice back in the UK, which was really good so I was expecting the same high quality performance, and I wasn't disappointed. I was especially amused by the 'inside joke' where Cinderella performs the part of Odette in Swan Lake. I think if you didn't know that they also perform Swan Lake on Ice, you might have been a bit confused by that part, as it's not in the traditional Cinderella fairytale, but I think it was a clever touch. The choreography as usual was fantastic, although I couldn't help my heart leaping into my mouth every time they did any lifts or spins etc.

To finish our cultural week off, on Sunday evening we went to see Circus Proms, a concert put on by the Wellington Orchestra. The circus act was ok, but not the greatest, but the orchestra was pretty good. This performance was aimed at families with children, so it wasn't exactly quiet, but it was a good introduction for us to the orchestra, which we both enjoyed, so we'll keep an eye out for other performances.
