Friday 6th June was 1st Friday drinks at work again. Each month, a different division hosts the drinks, and comes up with a theme. This month was Kiwiana, which is all the weird and wonderful quirky things from years gone by that contribute to the New Zealand sense of nationhood and kiwi identity.

As part of the theme, everyone was invited to make a sculpture or art using Number 8 wire. I should explain that it is said that Kiwis can create amazing things - all they need is 'a piece of Number 8 wire'.

Everyone was allowed to vote for the sculptures and the winning entry was number 5 - Buzzy Bee. Buzzy Bee is an iconic NZ toy so a very apt entry.

After 1st Friday drinks ended, I went out with a couple of the girls from Finance, and we ended up in Loaded Hog, where some other Transpower people were, and spent the rest of the evening dancing. I was good though and got the last bus home, so not too late a night. I did somehow manage to lose my bus pass though, actually on the bus, but I couldn't see it neither could any of the surrounding passengers.

On Saturday, after leaving a message at the Lost Property office about my bus pass, we went in the afternoon to a combined housewarming and two year old's birthday party. On the way there we popped in to see one of my work colleagues - Anna, as she lives just a few minutes away from where the party was.

The party was pretty good, although it was a bit hectic with at least a dozen kids running about creating chaos. There were just as many adults if not more, and it seemed to be a good mixture of Transpower people and others.

We left after a few hours as we had to catch the train back to town as we had tickets to see Cats at The Opera House. I had seen Cats before in Birmingham when I was younger, but I didn't really understand what was going on and didn't follow the storyline then. However, this time I enjoyed it a lot more, and Graham seemed to like it too.

Sunday was a bit of a write off, as Graham was working from home for approx 15hrs or so. He got up at 7am which is ridiculously early on a weekend and although he wasn't working constantly, it meant that we couldn't go out all day. I did manage to get out in the evening for a badminton match (I don't normally play but am on the reserve list, and they were short of players that week), but apart from that I just caught up on some housework and bills etc.

On Monday I had some good news as I rang the lost property office again, and they had found a bus pass, so instead of going to the gym at lunch time I caught the bus to Kilbirnie to go to the bus depot and pick up the pass. A 50 min round trip, so enough time to eat a sandwich as well! Marvellous!
