Good news about my job. On Monday, I was told that I'd been successful in getting the permanent position, so to celebrate, I went out with Graham to Lonestar for a meal, and then to the cinema to see Death at a Funeral. This is a very funny film, it started quite slowly but once it picked up, it was very good.
Since then, I've had a load of paperwork to fill in and a standard drugs test to take. The drugs test was quite funny actually as they put purple dye in the toilet as some people apparently try to water down their urine with toilet water. The woman waits outside the toilet so you can't water it down with tap water either. Talk about stage fright!
I've also had my immigration visa to sort out.Transpower is an accredited company with New Zealand immigration, which means that they can put you on a Work to Residence scheme. This basically means you have to work for Transpower for 2 years and then you automatically get granted residency. However, because we have already applied straight for residency, the HR person was going to speak to their contact in Immigration to find out the best way forward.
Today we had really good news, that the person at immigration is going to pull our application out of the queue and fastrack it, and hopefully we should have an answer within 2 weeks. Considering it can take up to 6-9 months, and we were estimating approximately 2 months, this will be very good news if it happens.
If we do get residency that soon, I'll have to find a new blog to write, as this Travelpod was just meant to be a record of our journey to becoming New Zealand residents. However, don't worry, I'll still be blogging, just in a different way. Will keep you posted!
