We were supposed to go mountain biking and horse riding this morning, but our arm muscles were strained from pulling ourselves up on the rope course the day before, and we were tired from all the early morning starts that we decided to skip this activity. One for the next time maybe.
After checking out and having a quick wander around town, we stopped at the lake to get some photos of the mountains, as it was a clear day, then we headed off to our final destination, Napier.
Napier was to be the more relaxing part of the holiday as I didn't have much planned or booked, deciding instead to see what we felt like doing each day. We stayed at our usual hostel - Criterion Art Deco Backpackers. This time we managed to get the ensuite room, which was a decent size and clean.
In the evening, I'd booked a meal at Take Five restaurant on Marine Parade as my friends Jill & Paul have raved about the food here often. All its food is organic, and it was very tasty, however I'd ordered a medium steak and that came well done, so I wasn't that impressed. For really good steak go to Steak Out Grill, also on Marine Parade, as we did the next day and their steaks were superb!
After dinner we drove to Hastings to see the Fiesta of Lights show. I wasn't sure what to expect but it sounded a bit like Walsall Illuminations but on a much smaller scale. It only cost $3 to get in, so we weren't expecting huge things, but we were pleasantly surprised. The lights were pretty decent, even if the music entertainment was lame!
